FIRST EVER CUP OF COFFEE WAS MADE BY A MUSLIM SAINT

As the legend goes, the first person to ever taste the coffee beans was the 9th century goat herder Kaldi who noticed that his flock had more energy when consuming the red berries of a certain plant. He collected the berries and took them to a Muslim holy man Omar Sheikh.
According to the ancient chronicle, Omar, who was known for his ability to cure the sick through prayer, was once exiled from Mocha, Yemen to a desert cave near Ousab. Omar chewed the berries brought to him by Kaldi, but found them to be bitter and threw them into fire, the roasting scent was so delicious that they quickly gathered up the beans, He tried roasting the seeds to improve the flavor, but they became hard. He then tried boiling them to soften the seed, which resulted in a fragrant brown liquid. Upon drinking the liquid Omar was revitalized and sustained for days. As stories of this "miracle drug" reached Mocha, Omar was asked to return and was made a saint.
When first reached Europe it was called a "Muslim drink" and despite appeals to ban it the first European coffee house opened in Italy in 1645.
The word coffee is Western form of the Arabic term quwwa for the drink.
